Next year, for the first time, allocations from the federal budget are envisaged for Transbaikalia under the national project «Integrated plan for the modernization and expansion of the backbone infrastructure “Europe — Western China «. The amount of funds in 2021 for the reconstruction of Chara airport within the framework of the national project will amount to 928.7 million rubles. In total, more than 2 billion rubles will be spent on the construction of the airport complex until 2022. Of these, federal budget funds are about 1.880 million rubles.
According to the project, the reconstruction will be carried out in two stages. The first one involves the repair of the runway, the second one — the construction of a service and passenger building. Air traffic will not be interrupted during the works. The reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in 2022. As part of the first stage, the contractor, with whom they will sign a state contract, will reconstruct an 1800-meter runway and arrange taxiways, as well as additional patrol tracks, and install lighting equipment. Let us remind you that Chara airport is located near the Udokan copper deposit, the largest in Russia. The building of the operating airport was built almost 40 years ago.
