“Udokanskaya Med” (formerly the Baikal Mining Company) has begun preparatory work on the construction site of a transport and warehouse complex near the Novaya Chara station of the Baikal-Amur Mainline, the press service of the company told Severnaya Pravda.
As the general director of Udokan Copper German Mironov noted, “excavation work and vertical planning of the territory have begun at the construction site”. According to him, the railroad base will allow receiving and shipping, as well as storage of finished products of MMC Udokan, while the capacity of the facility is calculated immediately taking into account the second stage of the construction. The work is scheduled to be completed by mid-2022. The transport and warehouse complex includes an administrative and amenity building designed to accommodate the management and employees, as well as sanitary facilities, a server room, a room for eating, a first-aid post. It is also planned to build a boiler room at the facility, a platform for unloading equipment with a jib crane, warm and cold warehouses for storing goods, a checkpoint for road transport, a warm garage and more. As the press service recalled, as a result of the project, a mining and metallurgical plant will be put into operation, the final products of which will be cathode copper and sulphide concentrate, the volume of production of the plant’s final products will be 125 thousand tons per year. Upon reaching full capacity, jobs will be provided up to for 2,5 thousand people and up to for 20 thousand people in related industries. The activities of the Udokan Mining and Metallurgical Combine will provide a contribution of up to 10% to the GRP of the Trans-Baikal Territory.
