INVESTMENTS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE TRANS-BAIKAL TERRITORY AND THE KALARSKY REGION

Udokan Copper signed an agreement for 2021 on socio-economic cooperation with the government of the Trans-Baikal Territory and the administration of the Kalarsky Municipal District in the amount of 400 million rubles.

The document was signed on June 3, 2021 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The document was signed by the Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory, Alexander Osipov, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Udokan Medi, Valery Kazikayev. Earlier, the document was signed by the head of the Kalarsky municipal region, Sergei Klimovich.

The agreement provides for the company’s participation in the implementation of investment programs and projects for the socio-economic development of the Kalarsky Region and Transbaikalia as a whole.

It, in particular, defines the measures with the amount of funding aimed at designing social infrastructure facilities and landscaping; construction of sports and playgrounds in the Kalarsky region, social support for remote settlements in the Kalarsky region; support of the indigenous small-numbered peoples of the North.

The document also provides for the holding of inclusive events in the capital of the Trans-Baikal Territory; events in the field of education, culture, art and sports.

“Udokan is the anchor and largest investment project in Transbaikalia and the Far East as a whole,” said Alexander Osipov, Governor of the Trans-Baikal Territory. — Within the framework of the first stage, more than 20 thousand people will be provided with jobs, taking into account related industries. The construction and operation of the plant creates a demand for modern and comfortable living conditions, and they are created not only for the company’s employees, but will also be available to local residents. The agreement provides for the design and construction of a number of social facilities that will transform the territories of the Kalarsky municipal region and Chita.

As V. Kazikayev noted: «Since 2010, «Udokan Copper» has implemented a set of measures to support the health care system and education, sports and culture, territorial development, combating forest fires and the consequences of floods in Transbaikalia. The amount of financial assistance, taking into account funding by the end of 2021, will already amount to 1.5 billion rubles.» According to him, the company’s efforts are primarily aimed at creating comfortable living conditions in the Kalarsky District, but a large share of the company’s financial resources are invested in supporting initiatives and projects in the territory of Transbaikalia as a whole and Chita. Valery Kazikayev also said that in 2020 the company allocated more than 320 million rubles to combat the spread of coronavirus infection in Transbaikalia and the Far East.
